Preparing for a move can be overwhelming as there are many boxes to check off your to-do list. Not only do you need to be sure that you and your family are prepared for the move, but your furry family members as well. There are some considerations and arrangements that need to be made to accommodate your pets in preparation for a move. Good Time Moving & Storage is here to share some tips to get your pets ready for a successful move to their new home.

Get Pet Identification Completed Before Moving to a New Place

Even if your pet isn’t accustomed to walking with a leash and doesn’t wear a collar on a daily basis, you will want to make sure you have these two things for your upcoming move. You should also consider getting your pet microchipped if you haven’t done that already. Pets can sense big changes and they may be on edge during the move. You don’t want them to get scared and run away with no way for other people to get them back to you.

Get Your Dog or Cat Used to Driving in the Car

If your pet isn’t used to car rides, you may want to start taking them with you more and more to get them used to riding in the car. You may be doing a lot of driving during your move, and you don’t want your pet to be miserable the entire time. Pets can have extreme anxiety in the car if they aren’t used to it. The vibrations and noises can cause them to feel nervous.

Seek Out Pet Friendly Lodging for a Long Distance Move

Before you get ready for a long distance move, you should consider finding pet friendly accommodations for you and your pet as you map out your route. There are several hotels that allow pets, but not all of them do. You don’t want your pet to get stuck sleeping in the car, or for you to accrue fines by the hotel for sneaking a pet into your pet free room.

Secure Pet Carrier in Car for Move

Before your move, you should find a pet carrier that is safe and can be secured in your vehicle. You wouldn’t set off on a long distance road trip without wearing a seat belt, you don’t want your pet to either. Find a way to secure their pet carrier to ensure they are safe.

Don’t Overlook Your Pet’s Healthcare Records

Every state is different when it comes to the requirements they have for pet vaccinations. You want to make sure you get a record of all your pet’s health records before you leave so you can prove that you are up to date on the vaccinations required, or get any that another state requires and your pet doesn’t already have.
